The important thing to remember is that it is the journey that counts, not the destination..

"Most of our lives are a series of images, they pass us by like towns on a highway. But sometimes a moment stuns us as it happens and we know that this instant is more than a fleeting image. We know that this moment, every part of it, will live on forever."-Lucas Eugene Scott [One Tree Hill, Season Three]

Wedding Fever

Here comes the bride....

Those who know me well - or are linked to my Facebook, Pinterest or blog - are aware of how much I love weddings. I really do. I am interested in all the obvious details; the who, where, when and in what. But what really catches my interest is the 'smaller' details, the look on the groom's face as he sees the bride for the first time, the song they dance to, the little decorations placed at the reception.

I have been to alot of weddings, and have been involved in the bridal party in many of them. I am always excited to hear about someone's engagement or upcoming wedding, offering a helping hand when/if needed.

It is due to this that I have thought for a long time that I would like to work as a wedding consultant/planner/stylist. Assisting my best friend, Adina, to plan her wedding for this year has only further reinforced this thought...

and so, I have decided to post more wedding related posts not only on this blog but also in For the Style Seeking Girl, I have created a pinterest board on weddings- Kooklah Style Weddings and have just this week enrolled in a wedding planning course which will be a great step in becoming a certified wedding planner and possibly creating a business.

Very excited!

It's the Simple Things that Count..

This weekend I travelled the hour and 40 minutes that separate me and my best friend Adina. She is getting married at the end of the year and I am her maid of honour, I am so excited and honoured that she asked me to have this role. I have been helping her plan and put together the wedding, pre-wedding events, ceremony, reception included. So this weekend's trip was a chance to go over things and start organising the remaining aspects that hadn't been discussed or looked into yet.

This weekend not only provided a chance for wedding organisation and plans, but a chance for us to catch up and enjoy each others company for awhile. Alot has changed since Adina moved away- compared to living a few streets away from each other, which means we see each other a lot less.

When I got there, it was straight to business of catching up- changing into our pjs, pulling out some snack food and watching some dvds. We had alot to cover and laughed alot. It was lovely. Like most best friends, we speak our own language, know each others stories and can pretty much communicate without actually talking.

The next day we had a wedding planning 'meeting' on the fold out futon. Listening to possible wedding songs and discussing ideas for various aspects of the wedding day. Then in the afternoon with the sun spilling in from the window, we decided to have a nap.

It was so nice, to crawl under the doona (warm from the sun) and share private jokes as we fell asleep. It is those little, simple things that I look back on and favour the most. Two days of hanging in our pjs, a nap in the sun and countless laughing... including pillow fights and play fights.

Here is a pic of us about to have our nanna nap:

What is a simple moment with a friend that you love to look back on?

happy days

Some days I wake up and I have this amazing, warm feeling. The sun seems brighter, the sky is blue-r and everything seems to have a wonderful magic or music to it

This is how I woke up this morning. Bliss. The fact that I am with one of my best friends just adds to it. So far it has been a morning of giant coffee cups, laughing, amenities with music constantly playing,  doritos, salsa and the best guacamole I have ever had, the O.C, lunch plans and an old friend coming to visit us tonight!

Hope everyone finds some magic today,

Time away with the best friend..

One of my best friends and I packed our bags this afternoon and headed a couple hours away to the coast.. Few days of relaxing, catching up, fun and adventures are on our agenda..

I love a midweek vacation. Brightens the soul alittle and takes away from stress that can build up during the week. We have dvds, good food  and some cocktails to drink...ladies of leisure for a few days.

Can't wait to update on the fun times had! Love you miss Emma T!

My Current Inspiration to Save Money

My friend Maja asked me at a cafe one day last month if I had a holiday booked for this year, I hadn't but had already thought about taking two weeks off and travelling somewhere - have never been overseas but have ALWAYS wanted to!

The main places I have wanted to go are Greece, America (New York-most importantly, San Fransisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, Miami), Italy (I would love to  spend a month in this country and explore everything it has to offer), France, England, Ireland, Scotland, Mexico, Costa Rica, Fiji, Spain, Abu Dahbi, Belgium and Germany.

I cannot wait to pack my bags and wander around New York-
a city I have held an interest in since I was 10 (so nearly 13 years)

The new york skyline- I have a photograph of it hanging in my room- time square and central park

We have so many ideas, especially sights to see but also alot of random and exciting/silly/fun ideas. Carriage rides, going to a baseball game-beer and a hotdog; followed by a sports bar, going and trying on Manolo Blahniks, having breakfast at Tiffanys, eating those large pizza slices, going to Magnolia Bakery for cupcakes, going out dressed up like the girls in Sex and the City or Gossip Girl and drinking cocktails and meeting cute boys. The empire state building, Trump Tower, Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn, go to Time Square, go to the 1800s Carousel in the park, go to Broadway

I cannot wait to fly off and start this adventure, so my main aim is to have more money then I will need saved by the time we have to pack up and go....

Happiness and Friend

So this year started in an amazing way, I spent New Years Eve on the coast with my cousins (and their friends) and one of my friends. It was very relaxed, beach all day, then getting ready and having a barbeque dinner and drinks. After the fireworks my friend and I danced and drank until the early hours of the morning.

After that I had one week of work left before three weeks holiday prior to starting my new job. With that week complete I went out for dinner and cocktails to begin what I was hoping would be an amazing summer. And it was. I made a new friend, with a girl I had briefly knew in primary school. She is amazing, we have so much in common and I cannot believe that we have not been friends for all of these years. We have so much fun together- our days or nights always turn into an adventure, we are honest with each other and have built a real connection.

I think it is so lovely to be able to connect on such a close level with someone as an adult, when it is younger it can be easier to make friends, but as a young adult the friendships you make can seem even more important. I think this is because you are forming into the person you will essentially be for the rest of your life, wih all your values and morals, interests and dislikes.

In the last few years I have really learnt that the people you surround yourself have a huge influence over how you act, what you do, how happy or positive you are. If people do not add to your happiness, then they should not be a part of your life. You ultimatley are responsible for your own happiness, but I know from experience having friends and family who add to this are so important. So vital.

With my new friend, Maja, life is amazing, we both make each other happy, we celebrate the small special moments and our achievements of our lives as well support each other through trying and difficult times.

We have already experienced so much- love/lust with boys, Ronan Keating concert, smaller gigs, nights out, movies, dvd nights leading into D&Ms and sharing music at 4am, daily talks, sharing of hopes, secrets and fears. We have so much more to go as well.... things like planning a trip to New York, celebrating birthdays and if, in a year our love lives aren't heading this way, moving out together.

A glimpse of time...

I love those moments that remind you or seem to transport you back to a moment, feeling or memory from your past. I had a moment like this last night. I was at my best friend's house, we had plans to hangout following dinner (which he was shouting as a trade off to me as I was wrapping Sam's Christmas presents as he doesn't like to wrap)..
We ate dinner, and proceeded to have a few drinks and watch the Mighty Boosh. As I wrapped presents.

After I finished -and they looked fabulous, if I do say so! We began talking about high school and funny moments with friends, then we began (as our conversations often go) to talk about music. During the last two years of high school we loved a band called the Common Code, Sam had his guitar out and had been playing some music and we began trying to remember how the songs went. Sam pulled his old iPod out and put the songs on, it was like been transported back through time...I felt how I did when I met Sam for the first time and when I saw this band live. Moments stunning us as they happen, and like that quote from One Tree Hill (appears under my blog heading) those moments had lived on and I was able to live it and feel it all over again.

When life was sometimes simpler, no real responsibility, school was the epicentre of our life and the people we shared it with meant everything. Take notice of those moments, they are more than just memories ...its a visit back to a time you loved, or a lesson you learnt, or maybe a reminder that what you have with someone - that connection, ease, friendship- is something wonderful. And as I'm hoping, in my situation, that the connection and friendship continues to run through time and provide many more moments where that relationship was enjoyed, strengthened or grew.

Live to the full, you never know what may become significant to you, when you look back in years to come.

My Male Best Friend

As I have written before having a close friend/s is so important ...someone to go through life with or be there to support each other when life kicks back hard.

I must admit I have a few of these friends... but one lately has really stood out. One of my best male friends, S*and ihave been friends for five years and met during year 11 in high school. There have been ups and downs but what has resulted is this beautiful, honest, supportive and loving friendship. It's really quite special.
We are the kind of friends where you feel more like family than friends (and we're that loyal too). He calls me his Sis, and for me he is like the older brother I never had, or the twin I used to wish I had. We have each other's backs and are always there to pick the other one up when they are down. We've survived illness, death and two breakups. Plus many more of the various lows life hits you with. We have also celebrated many highs like important birthdays, new relationships or exciting crushes, new jobs and other achievements and highs.

Lately since this year has brought an end to the relationships we were both in, our latest mission has been to be each others wingman or wingwoman. ;) it can be really fun and we honestly just want to see each other happy.
People tend to think a guy and a girl cannot 'just be friends ' but you definitely can ...I think opposite sex friendships are important, they have a different vibe to friendships between girls, a fresh perspective. I highly recommended it but you can't have a successful one if you're secretly hoping for a sexual or romantic relationship ...it works for us because we don't seek that from each other, we think each other are good people who deserve someone special but for us it's just friends.

From the outside to others it may just look like an ordinary friendship but to us it is really special,we have each others backs and I look forward to being his best friend for the rest of our lives.
