The important thing to remember is that it is the journey that counts, not the destination..

"Most of our lives are a series of images, they pass us by like towns on a highway. But sometimes a moment stuns us as it happens and we know that this instant is more than a fleeting image. We know that this moment, every part of it, will live on forever."-Lucas Eugene Scott [One Tree Hill, Season Three]

Thought of the Day 24/03/13

Today's Thought of the Day (24/03/13)...

I am all for helping other people and doing selfless acts... you just need to make sure that you do not repeatedly go without or put yourself last. Sometimes you need to come first. If you surround yourself with people who just take and take -  you will end up feeling empty, lonely and totally worn out. Make sure that you make time to enjoy your own company, refresh and be happy.

After two hectic shifts at work the last few days I plan on putting aside time to do just that tomorrow.
I am thinking:
*Watch some more NCIS episodes (re-obsessed with the show and currently watching them in order)
*Washing my hair - those of you who read 'sister-blog' For the Style Seeking Girl and have read a post about hair washing and work would know that I HATE washing my hair in between shifts unless absolutley necessary (plus had a fundraiser on last night so had no time to do so). Read "The Go-to for needs-to-be-washed hair" for more information!
*At least an hour at the gym
*Lighting my favourite vanilla candle

What will you do? (P.s - I have more widely touched on the concept of treating yourself kindly and attending to self-care in "Making time...for Self Care")

Alone does not mean LONELY...

This is something that very little people realise. Been alone, does not have to mean that you are lacking, that there is something 'wrong' with you, or that you are in fact lonely. It just doesn't.

For me, been fully single again, I am loving it. My decisions pretty much revolve around me. What I want. What I need. What I dream. I don't have to check in.

It is also the best chance for me to really work out what I want out of life, where I see my life going and how I want to spend my time here on earth. But also, to find myself- discover what I like and don't like, what I love, what my dreams are, the experiences I want, the goals I have.

And I have questions.

Is my chosen career really for me? I am not totally sure... I used to be, but now I am not totally sure.
Should I do another degree, or a course?
What kind of place do I want to buy?
What qualities do I look for in a partner? Which of these will I compromise on? Which will be non-negotiable- and therefore highlight dealbreakers?
Who are the people in my life who really matter and treat me like I matter to them?

I will be using this time to sort these questions but also to discover who I am and become the best possible version of that. I want to travel and see the world, I want to express my beliefs and support them publicly, do a good deed everyday, write down three positive things from each day, experiement with hair, makeup, clothes and accessories, and most of all spend time with my friends and family who make my world better.

working to live...

I honestly believe that we shouldn't be living to work, but rather working to live. One basically means the purpose of your life is to sit at that desk or answer to that boss...the other means you work to fund the life you want, or to provide experiences that put you in good stead-providing challenges or experiences that make you grow.

Now I don't mean that you shouldn't love your job or its not important, it is great if you love your job. I love mine although it tests the stress levels! But life should be about more than the work you do.
The places you go, the people you see and the things that you do are all important too and help make you who you are and form the memory you leave behind.

Life is meant to be lived- there is meant to be joy, uncertainty, sadness, confusion, excitement, sillyness, hope, fear and love. Just make the most of it because the saying "life is short"? It's completely true.

Have a good weekend.

Happiness and Friend

So this year started in an amazing way, I spent New Years Eve on the coast with my cousins (and their friends) and one of my friends. It was very relaxed, beach all day, then getting ready and having a barbeque dinner and drinks. After the fireworks my friend and I danced and drank until the early hours of the morning.

After that I had one week of work left before three weeks holiday prior to starting my new job. With that week complete I went out for dinner and cocktails to begin what I was hoping would be an amazing summer. And it was. I made a new friend, with a girl I had briefly knew in primary school. She is amazing, we have so much in common and I cannot believe that we have not been friends for all of these years. We have so much fun together- our days or nights always turn into an adventure, we are honest with each other and have built a real connection.

I think it is so lovely to be able to connect on such a close level with someone as an adult, when it is younger it can be easier to make friends, but as a young adult the friendships you make can seem even more important. I think this is because you are forming into the person you will essentially be for the rest of your life, wih all your values and morals, interests and dislikes.

In the last few years I have really learnt that the people you surround yourself have a huge influence over how you act, what you do, how happy or positive you are. If people do not add to your happiness, then they should not be a part of your life. You ultimatley are responsible for your own happiness, but I know from experience having friends and family who add to this are so important. So vital.

With my new friend, Maja, life is amazing, we both make each other happy, we celebrate the small special moments and our achievements of our lives as well support each other through trying and difficult times.

We have already experienced so much- love/lust with boys, Ronan Keating concert, smaller gigs, nights out, movies, dvd nights leading into D&Ms and sharing music at 4am, daily talks, sharing of hopes, secrets and fears. We have so much more to go as well.... things like planning a trip to New York, celebrating birthdays and if, in a year our love lives aren't heading this way, moving out together.
